Be INSPIRED!!!

Friends of Jeff

I'm the recipient of a daily inspirational report from a gentleman by the name of Jeff Young. Jeff is a Single Dad. And he's lived with Lou Gherig's Disease since the 80's. If anyone knows anything about Lou Gherig's, you know that the prognosis is not good. To beat all odds and live not just a few months or a few years, but YEARS AND YEARS beyond an original diagnosis...is amazing and inspiring all by itself. Add single parenthood to the mix and you've truly got yourself a super hero. I'm grateful for the reality check that lands in my email box every day.

Here is today's message:

"Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability." - John Wooden

John Wooden coached the UCLA men’s basketball team to ten national titles, including seven in a row between 1967 and 1973. Yet, he never implored his team to beat another team. Coach Wooden believed that the scoreboard was irrelevant to whether or not you won or lost. He told his players that only they would know whether or not they had won, because winning was determined by whether or not they had given everything they had to give. He told them there was no honor in outscoring another team simply because the other team was lousy or because they got lucky. Likewise, there was no shame in coming up short on the scoreboard if you had given it your all.

Be very careful when comparing yourself to others, because disappointment via unrealistic expectations is often the seedbed of failure. Can we get over the notion that life is supposed to be fair? It’s not fair, and it is never going to be fair. Because everyone plays the game of life with advantages and disadvantages others do not have, we must begin measuring our success based upon our own abilities. What would you do with someone else’s ability? Not a damn thing if you’re not already utilizing the ability that you already have. Regardless of where you are in life, start disciplining yourself to give your all in all that you do and you won’t be there for long.

Even in the limited state of his body, his brain and spirit are alive and well and still setting goals. He has a goal now of adding 10,000 readers to his email distribution. Let's all gather and push him over his goal! I encourage you to copy and post to your blog so all of your readers may be inspired, as well!

Advent Conspiracy

In the current economic climate, there are a lot of people who will struggle more than usual through this holiday season. I personally, have no money to contribute to gift giving of the standard variety this year. Rather than being discouraged, though, I’ve opened up my my box of creative possibilities to serve and give from my heart, rather than my pocketbook.

A few ideas that I have thought of immediately are:

*Clean out closets and donate to homeless and women’s shelter’s.
*Donate extra coats and blankets to homeless and women’s shelter’s or take a journey downtown and hand deliver them to whomever you’ve been lead to.
*I love to bake. The time and love poured into baking and cooking for others is a sure way to warm a heart, as well as the tum! And when has a homemade cookie ever NOT put a smile on your face?!
*I have several hidden gifts of the creative variety that I plan to utilize for blessing others. What do you do with your hands that could bless someone?
*It seems the hand written blessing has gone by the wayside with today’s modern technology. Tell someone how much they mean to you in your own words; your own handwriting.

These are just a few ideas that I have up my sleeve. Do you have any other ideas? Please comment and share your ideas so that we may all benefit and spread love and joy this Christmas Season with the gift of our TIME.

Thank You!

Thank you, dear brother and sister-in-law, for sending for the babe and I, Mom and Gramma, so that we could all spend Thanksgiving dinner together. Even though you just received a pay cut just before the holidays, you dug deep into your pockets for the best present we could ever receive: Time. We don't see each other very often now that you've moved away, but I will remember this forever. Thank you.

Thank you, employer, for keeping me through the holidays. In the current economic climate, it is a privilege and a blessing to have employment while I watch multitudes around me lose their jobs.

Thank you rain, all of it, for most of the year...because without it, Oregon would not be as lush and beautiful and green an amazing wonder to look at every single day of the year.

Thank you, technology, for allowing communication to happen quickly and easily no matter the distance that parts any of us.

Thank you, comfort food. Just because. :O)

Thank you, Blogger and other blog hosts for opening up a world of community that may not have ever been known without you. I now have friends from afar that I would not have known any other way. My world has been enriched.

Thank you, peace and quiet, when I am graced with it. It's where my batteries are recharged.

Thank you, church family, for loving me so unconditionally; for always knowing what I need, when I need it, and for helping when I'm afraid or stubborn or too prideful to ask.

Thank you, musically gifted individuals, for creating amazing sensation for the ears, mind, body and soul. Music moves me.

Thank you, friends, who I could not live without. My world is a better place because simply knowing you, makes me a better person. Thank you, for loving me.

Thank you sanity, for appearing when life would otherwise dictate insanity's presence.

Thank you, dear daughter, who fills me with so much joy, I almost can't stand it sometimes. I am blessed beyond measure!

Thank you, clients, for allowing me to capture your special moments and joy. Sharing a morsel of your world is priceless to me and I am enriched more than I could have ever imagined.

Thank you, childcare provider, for loving my daughter (and me) as one of your own, and taking such good care of her...you are the only ones I didn't feel I had to compromise my values for.

Thank you, America, for the freedom and abundance that we live in today. It's so easy to take it all for granted, but I appreciate the opportunity to be whatever it is I choose to be. Thank you for allowing us choices that so many do not know.

Thank you, washer and dryer, for getting all the dirt out, with relatively little effort on my part.

Thank you, Grace, for giving me the eyes to see that in a world that is broken, that there is hope and joy and peace in spite of it all; and we are all brothers and sisters, equal in our gifts and strife, together.

Thank you, Jesus, for saving me. I have been freed from a heavy cloud of burden and pain and released into the freedom that is hope, in You.

Thank you, God, for creating all things so beautifully and magically. I'm so blessed to reside in such wonder and amazement.

...Taken one step further...

So I have quite a bit of down time today... :O)

I am also an INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging) and am considered an Idealistic 'Counselor' according to Keirsey. (This test found here)

Counselors have an exceptionally strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others, and find great personal fulfillment interacting with people, nurturing their personal development, guiding them to realize their human potential. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes.

Counselors are scarce, little more than one percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.

Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people's feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization.

Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.

Keirsey Temperament Sorter - Who Am I?

Personality tests rock. I suppose it says a great deal about who I am simply by knowing and realizing that I love MeMe's and personality tests...I'm constantly striving to understand and better who I am (It even says so in these results). You can take a quick free test here.

Your Keirsey Temperament Sorter Results indicates that your personality type is that of the IDEALIST.

All Idealists (NFs) share the following core characteristics:

*Idealists are enthusiastic, they trust their intuition, yearn for romance, seek their true self, prize meaningful relationships, and dream of attaining wisdom.
*Idealists pride themselves on being loving, kindhearted, and authentic.
*Idealists tend to be giving, trusting, spiritual, and they are focused on personal journeys and human potentials.
*Idealists make intense mates, nurturing parents, and inspirational leaders.

Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self -- always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey. Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work, in journalism or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potentials.

Idealists are sure that friendly cooperation is the best way for people to achieve their goals. Conflict and confrontation upset them because they seem to put up angry barriers between people. Idealists dream of creating harmonious, even caring personal relations, and they have a unique talent for helping people get along with each other and work together for the good of all. Such interpersonal harmony might be a romantic ideal, but then Idealists are incurable romantics who prefer to focus on what might be, rather than what is. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. This idea of a mystical or spiritual dimension to life, the "not visible" or the "not yet" that can only be known through intuition or by a leap of faith, is far more important to Idealists than the world of material things.

Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. More often, however, Idealists are the very soul of kindness. Particularly in their personal relationships, Idealists are without question filled with love and good will. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships; they strive for a special rapport with their children; and in marriage they wish to find a "soulmate," someone with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.

Idealists are relatively rare, making up no more than 15 to 20 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

Idealists at Work
Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. They are naturally drawn to working with people and are gifted with helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potential both on, and off, the job.

Conscience looms large for you; in almost any situation, you feel compelled to measure yourself, other people, and the conditions of the environment against your personal morality. You have a tendency to perceive questions of meaning in even trivial matters and to worry about far-flung consequences of your actions. In your ideal job, you are free to pursue depth rather than breadth and quality rather than quantity. You feel rewarded when your projects and daily tasks allow you to immerse yourself in your process as deeply as you "need to" in order to satisfy your inner standards of quality. You are uncomfortable with the notion of authority per se and may avoid leading, as well as being led, either consciously or unconsciously. As you experience them, adhering to fixed roles and rules amounts to an abdication of your responsibility to exercise your conscience.

Hi :O)

Wow. So... It's been like... almost 3 weeks since I've posted. My how time flies when...when...when single motherhood happens! lol!

My Mom came to visit for a week and a half and help me with the babe while her regular daycare provider was out on vacation. SO great to have an extra set of hands from time to time. But then I start missing my space when she's here. In a couple days I'll start missing the extra hands again.

Single Motherhood is an exercise in constantly setting things down. Nothing is certain. Everything is moving. Plans always get redirected. I can't really get excited about anything because then baby chokes on a grape and throws up all over herself and the floor at Costco...you know...the life of single handed juggling has a lot of rain on the preverbial parade. But it is my life. :) I love it. It sure does enhance patience. Choking baby has strengthened my heart...because I've had a hundred heart attacks in the last 22 months. I have a lot of people in my life who help out a great deal. I am eternally grateful. But there doesn't ever seem to be anybody there when things get heavy. Or messy. (like having to just be right in the middle of a messy grape mess at Costco by myself.) There's no point in getting frustrated with the things life throws...or baby throws...up.

At any rate...this post isn't about anything in particular. Just kinda spilling whatever beans I can find. Marbles. I've lost mine. Could you help me find 'em? I filled out another Meme the other day. I should post it. A couple friends of mine said I was hilarious. I have my moments.

Fall

I just had a little epiphany. :O)

Fall...that time of year when all the leaves on the trees die and it gets cold and everything rests for a while...but with the promise of renewal in the Spring. I've been taking pictures of the leaves and colors and have never truly SEEN the colors of Fall until this year, as I've been capturing them through the lens of my camera. How amazing, breathtaking, and beautiful the landscape becomes...when things DIE?!

After the Fall...of man...we as humans became filled with self. And from that point forward we as a human race have been seeking to find our way back to our core; our Creator. This process is dying to thy self. DYING. But always with the promise of renewal, of Spring. We don't usually look at the process of dying to anything as beautiful, though. It is uncomfortable and painful and downright ugly sometimes. But if we redirected our focus to look at the process of dying, as a beautiful thing, like the changing of the leaves in the Fall, we might feel more inclined to embrace the process and joyfully anticipate the season of renewal that we know is around the bend.

:O)

The Least of These

As the Season of Giving approaches, it's easy to consider all those who are less fortunate. It is my personal desire to incorporate a year long season of giving, into my life; to think of others always, before myself. And not just this coming year, but for the rest of my life.

As a single woman, it can be a bit intimidating to consider how to help because the environments in which the poor and homeless reside are not always the safest. I'd like to offer a few ideas that I have been prompted to in the past few months.

There is a local market downtown (Portland Saturday Market) that is in the neighborhood of the homeless. Because there are so many people, it is a safe place to be, if alone, to do 'something'. A few weeks ago I felt compelled to go and take pictures. I have a zoom lens so was able to capture the life without intruding into their space. What I have done with these photos is post them to my photo blog and have drawn attention to a ministry that actively assists with helping them, called Bowls of Grace. I plan to create a book for them with my pictures to assist them with their ministry outreach efforts. While I was there, I had the opportunity to chat with a couple of individuals who live the life. They approached me, so I feel like they were God led. They were who I was to go downtown to see. And they asked me to pray for them, which was an amazing privilege to do. I learned during this trip that when He asks us to go...that if we just go, He will guide us and protect us and give us the resources that we need to accomplish His purpose.

I have felt a pressing to minimize and simplify the abundance of 'stuff' in my house. Stuff is just stuff. Why do I have so much stuff? I don't need it all. So I will donate my 'stuff' to the local GoodWill in order to allow them to help others who are in need. We don't always have to be on the front line to still make a difference.

I will be donating all my extra clothes to the women's shelter.

I currently work for an organization that makes shoes. Sometimes freebies are available for the taking. I've recently collected some shoes and t-shirts that I intend to bring to those in need. Any opportunity that I see/find that is giving away freebies, I first consider the needs of those who are without.

I have a collection of coats I've collected over the years and I plan to take them downtown sometime soon to pass out to whomever God leads me to.

For Thanksgiving, a friend of mine always receives a turkey for free from work. We intend to cook it up and make turkey sandwiches out of it, and provide a good turkey sandwich to those who live downtown.

I've had the opportunity to be a part of a Bowls of Grace outreach downtown and its amazing the stereotypes we create in our mind about who really lives on the streets. On one occassion we served over 200 homeless and I was surprised to know that there were only a very very small handful that were visibly drunk or on drugs (because that is what I have thought of them). The individuals I was able to speak to were genuinely humble folks who hit a rough spot and were in transition. Some are very ashamed, but are working on finding their way 'home'. My heart broke for them.

Taking a giant leap of faith to step into the world of the oppressed is a life changing experience to say the least. It truly puts into perspective the abundance that we are surrounded with.

I'm in the process of finding a new job and the job that I anticipate obtaining will provide me a great deal more of a salary than I am currently receiving. It would be very easy for me to think first about myself and about what I'm going to do with my new found 'wealth' (vacations are usually the first thing in my mind). But all I 'need' is enough to keep the roof over our head, clothes on our back, and food in our bellies. The rest of the 'stuff' is just 'stuff'. In contemplating my journey to the heavenlies (which could happen at any moment), I've thought long and hard about the legacy I will leave. Will it be found in the 'stuff' that is collecting dust in my garage? Probably not. Will it be found in the coat that I give to somebody who is cold? Or the warm sandwich to the growling stomach that hasn't had a meal in a while? I am rich beyond measure to have a roof, food and clothes. The essentials we so take for granted are not a privilege for a great deal of Americans. Here...the land of the FREE...is so incredibly oppressed beneath the obsession with self. How many financially rich people are happy because of their wealth? Probably not many. But richness and fullness is realized when handing someone something that seems so trivial to me. What about a warm hug and a smile on a cold day? Because beneath the dirty clothes and exterior is a heart that deserves some warmth and love, too.

Matthew 29:40
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Me Tired Head

I am so ridiculously tired I almost can't stand it. I say almost because there's only about an ounce of anything in me at the moment that is keeping me on the responsible adult side of consciousness. (How in the world did I just articulate that sentence...Apparently my fingers are on auto pilot.) Because really...seriously...my brain has left the building. It is taking a nap...like the rest of my body should be doing.

I love love love my baby so much and she's so worth everything that is difficult about single parenting. But probably the HUGEST annoyance and challenge I have is never getting enough sleep. The past couple of weeks have been the worst. Every chance I have gotten to get to bed early...I can't sleep and end up tossing and turning until really late...so I may as well have just stayed up and gotten things done like I needed to anyway.

Thank goodness I work in a completely casual work environment (at least for now) because today I'm sporting jeans and a hoodie. I could not muster enough strength to find anything else. Wow. I'm so going to sleep in my truck at lunch today. Intravenous caffeine would be good for now. UGH!

Add to my tired's a new job search. Job hunting is the least pleasant of my favorite things to do...interviewing sucks the life out of me. And since I don't have a lot of life to suck out at the moment, I'm praying fervently that the interviewers can see past the black circles under my eyes to see the really capable individual who wants to work her tired hiney off for them. That makes me tired to think about...working my hiney off. Cuz really...my current job is cake; I don't need to bring my brain in on most days because its just really...brainless...work. But I can't stay here because as fabulous as the culture and relaxing flexibility of this environment, it's not adequately paying my bills. If it was just me, I'd stay because I can make compromises for myself...but since I'm the sole breadwinner...I can't make compromises. Little munchkins require a certain amount of funding that is completely out of my control. And gosh, it sure would be nice if I could afford someone to come out and clean my house for me every now and then.

And with all of that said, the sad part is that I have to consider setting aside the thing that really brings me to life...my photography. Or at least redirecting my focus/time/energy...because it is the thing that I do in whatever spare moments I get. But I can't push myself over into doing that full time right now. Too much of a frivolouse expense for people to spend money on photography when they can't pay their bills and they're losing their houses.

So...today...its about survival...and keeping my eyes open (particularly while I'm driving). And it really frustrates me when I have to place myself in auto pilot just coasting...because its the only thing I have the energy for. And I can't push myself until I break. Gotta be at least partially functioning for my baby.

UGH.

There Will Be a Day

Sometimes a song will come out that grips my heart and soul...like God Himself has wrapped his giant arms around me and I'm so full of hope and love and if for only a moment, I feel absolutely complete, in His presence. This song has done that, but this time its like a huge hug that will be followed by a lengthy time apart...like when your best friend moves away and it will be a long while before you see them again. You know you will...but the missing them seems so agonizing. There's another song called 'Homesick' by Mercy Me... I've never really felt this kind of homesickness until now. My heart aches to just be 'home'...where there will be no more pain; no more worry; no more fears. But my hope for that is what keeps me alive. What an incredible anticipation... :O)

Dreams

So...it was a little bit disturbing walking in to face my boss this morning. Because I had this dream...crazy. It wasn't sexual or anything, but it was a very intimate closeness. And it was so real. That when I saw his face this morning, I had to shake my head and bring myself back to reality. My boss is totally married and even if he wasn't, he's completely not my type. And shorter than me. ha! But weird how we dream stuff like that. Where in the world did it come from? Things that make you go hm...

Why do I Fight...

There are times when my heart hurts...it yearns fulfillment...the kind that makes me feel as if I'm going to burst, but without pain...instead, overwhelming joy. I think fondly of people who've been brought to my heart, and then taken or removed. I don't understand sometimes how/why our will cannot be enough to make it work. But His Will is greater than anything we can know for ourselves...particularly in the moments we are yearning so deeply.

It is healthy to yearn. It means there's something more.

If I could just relax into His embrace...and find comfort there. He wants me to take the hands that are holding me, right now. Relax into them. And breathe. His hands are holding me.

Kinda Quiet 'Round Here...

Ya, so I haven't had a great deal of Inspiration these days. This doesn't mean I haven't had truck loads of 'stuff' passing through my brain. It just means the truckloads are not taking on any kind of form. Even a tornado has a cylindrical form...Hurricanes. Perhaps what has happened is an earthquake. :) Lots of ruckus, but a form cannot materialize until some time passes clearing up the rubble.

What HAS been happening?

Well...I'll start with the stuff I don't have a great deal of control over...Economic 'stuff'. We're all in it. I try hard not to consider how devastating things CAN or COULD get; try to focus more on God's provision in spite of it all. I realized yesterday that gas prices have dropped a whole dollar in the last couple months, but it is still a wreck to drive through the pump. For some reason my gas mileage has decreased significantly, so just because gas prices have gone down...they haven't really, if I have to fill up more frequently. I purchased cooking oil for the first time in a long time this weekend...It took me a minute to pick my jaw up off the floor...almost $5 for a small jug...of the GENERIC STUFF!?!?!?! I remember paying less than a dollar...or a little over a dollar for a BIG jug...what seemed like not so long ago. Hello! What are they putting in it? GOLD?! Okay...end gripe. [UPDATE: I visited a different grocery store...and oil was around $1.50. I took a giant sigh of relief. The other store clearly benefits from robbing their customers. Won't be visiting there again.]

Anyways...things are feeling a little dismal. I hear almost daily now of someone losing their home and families are starting to stack up on each other. I am mentally preparing myself for the same possibility in my household; that my Mom and Gramma might sooner than later take up residence in my spare room. This wouldn't be such a bad thing...I could use the company sometimes. However, losing your 'space' is hard to get used to; hard to consider getting used to. But...all things happening for a reason, I ponder how this economy could be forcing us to look at our families and depending on one another, like they did in the 'olden days'. Back when I feel like people were a whole lot less selfish and a whole lot more selfless. When God was more of the center and not our own self. Hm.

Even considering the loss of our 'convenient' lifestyles, which is essentially what we at this point are mourning, is convenience...we in this country are so RICH. My garage is full of 'stuff'. Why do I have all this 'stuff'? Because I can, I suppose. What would it look like if every penny we earned went to only our basic and essential needs...food. Clothing. Not designer clothing or pretty clothing, but clothing for comfort and warmth. Perhaps I/we could learn to appreciate our abundance. I'm a single woman with a small child who owns a home. I have no equity in it right now because of this economic ditch we've fallen into, but I OWN a roof. How rich am I?

I've decided to simplify myself over the next few weeks and start donating clothes and 'stuff' to those who are less fortunate. I've love to find someone specifically to bless with it, but I don't know anybody personally who could benefit. Fortunately there are organizations that help with finding these individuals, though. My clothes will all go to a woman's shelter. Other household items will go to Goodwill.

It's interesting how difficult it is to make a decision to downsize. Like there's some emotional attachment to 'stuff'. I admit...it is difficult for me to get rid of certain things. But if its been in my garage for a while and I haven't thought about it or looked at it or used it... then what is the point of it collecting dust? And truly, on a grander scale...if I was taken from this earth today, what agony my friends and family would have to endure sorting through this 'stuff' and having to find something to do with it. What is more important? Blessings to others will last well beyond this life. Material 'stuff' is but dust...that will choke you if you get too close to it...

So today, I'm going to start cleaning house. Clearing the clutter. Freeing my spirit and conscience to focus on more important things. Finding gratitude in all the things I have collected over the years, but finding also freedom in letting it go.

I'm Moving to Denmark

Just heard on the radio this morning, this FANTASTIC revolution... for we night owls, they've begun the 'B-Society'. Those who start functioning the best after 10am. Those who have a PAINFULLY difficult time getting up in the morning. Those whose natural time clock is a bit later than the 8-4/9-5 standard.

Here's the 10 Commandments of the B-Society:

*The daily rhythm of each individual is genetically conditioned by heredity. Society needs to be structured to support a diversity of daily rhythms.

*We are calling for an uprising against the tyranny of early rising, and for a better world where a diversity of daily rhythms is acknowledged and respected, giving us the opportunity for a better quality of life, more productive working time and major socioeconomic gains once we no longer take up the same space on the same roads at the same time.

*We are working for equality between early birds and night owls.

*We are working for a more flexible labour market. Each individual's daily rhythm should, as far as possible, govern that person's working life.

*We are working for the introduction of collective agreements for early birds and night owls at negotiations for labour market agreements.

*We are working for the establishment of day nurseries, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as universities that open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m, at least.

*We are working for more research into daily rhythms.

*We grant ”B-certification” on www.b-productive.dk/eng to businesses, who allow employees to work according to their own daily rhythm, work rhythm and life rhythm.

*We are working globally for a better world that supports a diversity of individual daily rhythms, working rhythms and life rhythms.

*Imagine how differently society would have turned out if the creators of the world had been night owls!

Yahoo! I'm moving to Denmark! :O)

I Got the Jitters

It's totally been one of those awful eating days. Coffee for breakfast. Adams Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple Cheesecake for lunch (say that three times fast). Coffee for an afternoon snack. Now I'm choking down a bag of carrot sticks...because I should have some nutrition for today, yes? You know how bad carrot sticks taste after all you've had all day is caffeine and chocolate and sugar? Mmmm Tasty. Really... My hiney is thanking me for the calories. Okay, maybe not. Wouldn't it be nice if we could decide where the calories go? So...my hair is a little flat today. It could use some fullness. Calories there. On frumpy 'fluffy' feeling days, my little toe could use some calories...and nobody will notice. OH...I'd like some calories up topside please...ya...that would be nice. Okay, maybe people would notice too much. On days when sitting on hard chairs is required...ya...calories on the cushion please. :) Clearly, the sugar and jitters have gone to my head. I'm delirious. 6 minutes to quittin' time. I'll go jog to my truck...eliminate at least two of those cheesecake calories that I'm sure landed everywhere but where I'd prefer.

Happy Day Before Friday all! :O)

EHarmony - MeMe

I heard an ad on the radio the other day about EHarmony...I've heard thousands of them. But this particular one caught my attention. I'm not sure why...can't even remember what they said (subliminal?). But my curiousity was piqued about the personality profile. So I took the tests...and am quite floored, really...at how accurate the results were, about who I am. There were quite a few questions that were hard to answer because of my values and belief systems, so it is less than perfect in my opinion, but I'm still amazed at what kind of studies must have gone into this questionaire to be able to draw such conclusions. (*disclaimer for those who are curious...I'm not on the EHarmony prowl. Taking my profile down.)

~AGREEABLENESS~

You are best described as:
TAKING CARE OF OTHERS AND TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF

Words that describe you:
Fair
Considered
Collaborative
Responsive
Sensible
Diplomatic
Contemplative
Indulgent
Rational

A General Description of How You Interact with Others
You are important. So are other people, especially if they are in trouble. You have a tender heart, but you know how to establish and keep personal boundaries. You are empathetic and compassionate, but you also believe that it's best if people solve their own problems and learn to take care of themselves, if they are able.

You are deeply moved by the needs of others, but you know that if you don't take good care of yourself, you'll wind up being of no use to anyone. So yours is a thoughtful compassion. You strive to be fair and sensible, taking care of others while also taking care of yourself.

When someone really is in trouble, you like to collaborate with them toward a solution; they do their part, you do yours. You consider carefully, and respond in a sensible way; they do their part, and together you move through the difficulty.

You seldom act impulsively; rather, when a problem arises, you take your time to think through the situation. This contemplative quality usually means that you'll arrive at a diplomatic solution, one that's fair for the other person and also fair to you. It's frequently a win/win situation.

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward You
For people who are ruled by tender-hearted compassion, your more diplomatic response to problems might seem too cool, too focused on fairness and not filled enough with sympathy and selflessness.

For them, when someone's life is on fire, what is needed is not collaboration but rescue. And the person who experiences their life on fire may resent the time you take to contemplate. "I need you, and I need you NOW! This isn't about fairness, it's about the fire." "All deliberate speed" may seem too deliberate and not fast enough, either to the more compassionate or to people in genuine trouble.

At the other end of the spectrum of compassion, those who believe people should take care of themselves may find even your thoughtful sympathies too soft. They expect people, themselves included, to work their own way out of trouble. They are convinced that the helping hand you lend just fosters dependence and is not good for the development of character, either in you or in the person you assist.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You
Many people, perhaps the majority, will come to appreciate your balance as a compassionate person. The more they get to know you, the more they will admire your thoughtful compassion for others and its compliment in the sensible ways you take good care of yourself.

Those whom you help will appreciate the way you leave them with their dignity by expecting them to collaborate in their own rescue. Those who are more tender-hearted will find in you a balance they lack; when they've run out of energy because they fail to take good care of themselves, you will still have enough compassion left to lift others out of trouble.

Even the tough-hearted, those who believe people should solve their own problems, might come to admire your tenderness which they don't find in themselves. So the people you help will be grateful, and the people who see your balance between self and others will admire you. Certainly, balanced is not bad at all as a way to be known among your friends.

~OPENNESS~

On the Openness Dimension you are:
CURIOUS

Words that describe you:
Original
Inventive
Thinker
Brave
Eccentric
Avant-Garde
Out-of-Touch
Unique

A General Description of How You Approach New Information and Experiences
You think like an artist. Or better, you SEE like an artist. While most people look at life's straight lines, its height and depth and width, you're bending the lines with your imagination and turning black and white into shades of blue and yellow. And in conversations at work or with your friends you want to ask, "Do you see what I see?" A few might, most don't, but you've piqued everyone's curiosity with your own original and inventive ways of thinking.

You can, if you must, think in conventional ways. But left on your own, you'll usually opt for the eccentric or avant-garde; in fact you're usually bored with what everyone else is comfortable with. You learn from reading, talking, watching people and other fauna and flora, and simply sitting in the soft chair of your mind and wondering how people would learn how to count if they could only use uneven numbers. You are out in front of conventional ideas, bravely originally defining true and false, right and wrong, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward Your Style of Thinking
You drive through life faster than the speed limit, and when you hit speed bumps, and you hit a lot of them with your mind distracted from the straight line ahead your wheels leave the ground.

For people who like life at a safer speed, you move too fast and lose touch too often with the solid ground they prefer, hence their discomfort with you. As odd as you might find this, many people feel safe in the shelter of the world they already know. They like the familiar. They breathe easily and sleep deeply knowing with more certainty how the world works. So although they might enjoy your company and be curious about your latest notion of how to count backwards by threes, they can only take you in small doses. And they wish you'd quit trying to push the boundaries of their personal and social cosmos.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You
Even those whom you make uncomfortable know, as just about everyone does, that you're not a flake. You think well, and even your wildest fancies have their roots in the deep soil of sound ideas and tested beliefs. So even if some people don't want to drive at high speed with you, they will respect you for your courage as an innovative and unconventional thinker. You lend color and imagination to what would otherwise be the straight black and white lines of their work world and social environments.

A few more daring people of your circle might even learn from you to take a risk they would otherwise never consider. As comfortable as they are on solid ground, they may be curious about what it would be like to go faster than the speed limit, or paint the living room two shades of blue, or question ideas or beliefs they've fingered like sacred beads since they were children.

After all, they watch you do it, and you seem no worse for the risks you take. In fact, your eyes are wider and your breath quicker, and maybe they can find at least a bit of this for themselves. To be certain, they don't want their wheels to leave the ground, but maybe the next time they approach a speed bump they might just brace themselves and speed up just a little bit.

~EMOTIONAL STABILITY~

On Emotional Stability you are:
VERY RESPONSIVE

Words that describe you:
Emotional
Insightful
Perceptive
Sensitive
Self-conscious

A General Description of Your Reactivity
Each one of us encounters some hard times; we get caught off guard, or feel a sudden swell of emotion, whether from fear, joy, anger or sadness. Life is just like this sometimes. You know that because you are an emotional person. Some people go to great lengths to keep their emotions under wraps, to keep a stiff upper lip, to not let others know what emotions they are feeling. But that is not you. You embrace all of life's emotions, both the joys and the turmoil that life brings our way.

When you're having fun with a group of friends you don't even try to contain your pleasure; you laugh hard and feel every moment of the conversation because of the joy that comes from the experience. You make very intense friendships; ones where all of the depth of emotions that you feel can be shared. Emotions are such an essential part of your everyday life. You may cry at intense movies or when watching a sad story on the evening news. You get angry, at others or at yourself, and you do not stifle it. Emotions drive your personality and your relationships - you simply are what you feel.

You experience both the highs and the lows more profoundly than most. And you usually relish the intensity of your emotions. For sure you enjoy the positive times. There are those times, though, when your feelings get the best of you and you wonder how you will manage the moment. But because you are so in tune with all of your emotions you will experience something very pleasant and will be able to engage with that positive feeling to again enjoy the wonderful intensity that life brings you.

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward You
If we were to ask you what negative reactions may result from your approach to your emotions, it would likely be that some people find it hard to deal with your strong feelings. They might think of you as emotionally "over the top," and wish you would be more like those who are always emotionally composed and less prone to fully engage their emotions.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You
Despite any negative reactions others may have toward you, many people will be grateful for your strong emotions and your willingness to experience these emotions. They will appreciate the candor with which you express even your deepest feelings, feelings they themselves might want to express but may find difficult to share. Your openness will be an encouragement to them as well. Still others may find your intensity compelling; they feel emotionally flat, and you could be a burst of passion in their dull worlds, and an encouragement to them to "get with" their own feelings. Any or all of these people will be grateful for a friend who is so emotionally present.

~CONSCIENTIOUSNESS~

Your approach toward your obligations is:
FOCUSED AND FLEXIBLE

Words that describe you:
Casual
Informal
Compliant
Reliable
Organized
Solid
Dependable
Uncommitted
Genuine

A General Description of How You Interact with Others
When you take on a task at work or at home, you are reliable; you get the job done. In an organized way, you define the goal, lay out a plan, figure how long the task will take, and get to work "solid and dependable you".

But and this is important you're not a slave to the plan. You're committed to it, but not chained to it; the connection is more casual and informal. You know that sometimes "the best laid plans" fall off the tracks; when this happens, you clean up the train wreck and start over, undeterred.

Though not happening often, when plans change, you're okay with it. In fact, sometimes you change the plan. It's too nice of a Saturday to finish organizing the garage. Let's go for a bike ride instead. True, the next rainy Saturday will likely find you back in the garage, but for now the work can wait.

What an interesting combination of qualities in you're organized, but casual; solid, but compliant; and dependable, but informal. At home and at work, people know they can rely on you. You take great satisfaction in knowing that people think of you as disciplined and responsible, but you also know that you have something of a free spirit in you, and when this spirit moves you, off you go, following the impulse of the moment. You are rightly proud of your work ethic, but you also enjoy your willingness to lay the tools down, crank up the music and play like a child.

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward You
Some people live like Marines: duty-bound, disciplined and driven. To these people you might seem uncommitted; where they would never leave work for play or change plans in the middle of their life's forced march, you let the circumstance sway you and move in a different direction, and they don't understand.

Others live like kites on a string, attached by thin threads to the solid ground of responsibility and are blown about by every gust of impulse or imagination. To these people you might seem too cowardly, like you'll flirt with your impulses but never give in fully, play on a Saturday but never blow of the entire work-week to "follow your bliss".

While these Marines and kite-flyers might look down on you for your combination of focus and flexibility, others might be envious. They can't free themselves from a sense that they're not doing enough, or from the equally frustrating feeling that they're not free enough.

And here you are with your accomplishments and your pleasures, getting the job done but also getting your hair blown back as you run with the wind. As far as these people are concerned, you're lucky you've got the best of both of the worlds in which they feel they fail.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You
What a great life you have, and a great attitude to boot. You know when to buckle down and push ahead to get the job done, and you do it well. You know when to lay the tools of your trade aside, grab your kite and head for the meadow where you can run with the wind. Many people will see and admire in you this lovely combination of a person who can focus, but who is flexible enough to know when to let the spirit move you in some new and livelier direction.

It's a life they aspire to, and they delight in seeing it played out in your life. They may ask your advice and turn you into a mentor of the full and balanced experience. They will want to know how you do it, what the costs are, and if you get frightened that you're not working hard enough or playing often enough. They may make you think about your own life more than you have, so you can share it with those who want to emulate this balance between flexibility and focus. They may be correct lucky you!

~EXTRAVERSION~

When it comes to Extraversion you are:
SOMETIMES OUTGOING, SOMETIMES RESERVED

Words that describe you:
Moderate
Amiable
Laid-back
Temperate
Relaxed
Poised
Civil
Uncommitted
Pleasant

A General Description of How You Interact with Others
Lucky you! You enjoy your own company as much as you enjoy the company of others. You are a great conversationalist and thrive in the wonderful kinds of connections you know how to have with your family and friends. You also equally enjoy your own company, whether sitting in a favorite chair with your book and soft music playing or meandering in the woods by yourself. You like coming home to your family or your roommate; but if no one is home, you find quiet, solitary time to be just as pleasurable. What a great combination to enjoy being outgoing and to be just as comfortable being reserved. Lucky you!!

Because you are so amiable and relaxed, you are comfortable with almost any group of family or friends. Whether they are pumped up and lively or calm and subdued, you remain at ease. If someone needs to take over the conversation, you are comfortable taking the lead; you can also lay back and let someone else be in charge. If the conversation gets rowdy, your moderate demeanor will often draw it down to a more temperate level. If someone in the group loses their cool, you will most likely maintain your poise, and if they get nasty you know how to keep a civil tongue.

You may find yourself out of balance on occasion. If you're alone too much, you may need to get in touch with someone. If you spend too much time with your family and friends, you may need to sneak off for a day by yourself, to putter and read and clear your head of the noise of too much conversation. When you're at your best, you live with a rhythm of time with others, time alone, time with others, time alone It's a satisfying, comfortable balance. Lucky you!

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward You
You may occasionally run into problems with other people. Since not everyone is as balanced as you are, close friends and family may get frustrated with you, or you with them. They may be more sociable and outgoing, and find you too laid-back and relaxed. They want conversations to be lively and passionate while you keep things amiable and civil. Or others may be more quiet and reserved than you, and when you're in one of your more animated moments they may wish you would back off. You may be ready to put more energy into a conversation than they are comfortable with.

And your balance may be a problem. Other people may be consistently more sociable or more reserved than you, and find you to hard to read, some may even say you ride the fence. Others may find themselves envious of your ability to be outgoing at times, and at other times comfortably reserved. If you pay attention to pick up these cues you will be in a better position to know how you want to interact with such folks.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You
Most people will truly appreciate your flexibility in social situations. They will like you for your amiable warmth and your willingness to engage, and for your ability to sit back and let others take the lead or the spotlight. They will appreciate ways in which you temper what could become intemperate moments; by remaining poised and relaxed when others; temperatures are rising, you keep things civil and sane.

You are as good at listening and following as you are at talking and leading, and people will often appreciate your ability to adapt to the situation. Because you are sometimes outgoing and sometimes reserved, you will make most people comfortable in your presence, and they will truly enjoy your company.

Through the Lens of Inspiration

I'm not sure if its 'normal'...by normal I mean...is it common for every head to think as much as mine does. I wonder if it is just my perceptions that draw so much attention to it. And my excitable personality that brings it all to the surface. There are some personalities that are so calm and reserved and mellow. I wonder...do their minds race around their heads 24 hours a day, too? Or is this just something that makes me a little bit different; a little bit unique. Not abnormal, because I do know that others besides myself think A LOT. I wonder why I feel mine is so...illuminated...magnified...LOUD. Hm.

Anyway...thinking is good. There's a lot of attention drawn to it, but I don't find it a detriment so much anymore, like I used to. I used to think I was crazy (ok, maybe I am...but I'm okay with crazy now. (O: At least at this particular moment.). Nowadays...it is the wellspring of my search for wisdom and truth. The wisdom and truth that is relevant to my world. Sometimes...this wisdom and truth is even relevant for others' worlds. :) (and this is why I decided to start blogging...it can't all be for naught, this mind racing stuff)

I am an aspiring photographer. I love capturing moments. As I've released myself from the starting gates, I have had a lot of trepidations about going forward. I really questioned any talent that I had. I knew that I LOVE taking pictures. I see pictures all the time and wish I had a camera to capture every beautiful and glorious thing I see. But just because I have that vision doesn't mean there's any real value to the population at large for it. It is my inspiration. And others don't have to see it the same way as I do. But when venturing forth as a consideration for a full time employment endeavor, I have to take into consideration its value, because its value equals how I will pay my bills...and that means it has to be of good value. It's complicated. But, over this last year, I have been affirmed over and over and over and over again, that what I see truly does have value. Inspiration is valuable. People live for inspiration and beautiful things. They may not recognize it completely, but our passions are fueled by inspiration, are they not?

Anyway, I have another little fear sometimes that makes me nervous before a photo shoot...that I might not capture something as well as the client would like me to. Or that the inspiration will not be there. Or that my camera will malfunction. However, I have learned while shooting, that there is absolutely nothing accurate or relevant about that fear. I have NEVER been inspiration-less during a shoot. If I put the camera up to my eye, the inspiration is there. EVERY TIME. The shoot never unfolds how I would expect it to, but it doesn't mean it was a failure. Because failure in this regard would require that I be some kind of a fortune teller...to see what I'm supposed to do, absolutely, and then do the opposite. And I'm not a fortune teller. So I can't be a failure.

Yesterday I was thinking about how true this is of life. If I'm going to shoot a wedding, I know that I'm going to shoot a wedding. I can anticipate that there will be a beautiful bride and a handsome groom, and a lot of family and friends and happy faces. There will be details to capture and fun stuff, and emotional stuff, and maybe even some hard stuff. But how it actually unfolds is a mystery. And what I actually capture is really only partially understood until I begin to look at the pictures I've captured. They then come back to life for me, but they bring an even fuller life to the recipients of the pictures when they receive them.

We get one day at a time and we can make plans about what those days are going to contain, but what they hold will never be known until the moment it is realized. While we are passing through it, we can realize a certain element of what it contains, but as time passes, it becomes more fully developed into something more; we can piece it together for a larger picture. And then when others are involved, and it is shared, it becomes even larger. All completely relevant and valuable...and completely unanticipated at the same time. Those who fear what tomorrow brings, are being robbed of the fullness and excitement of the ambiguous moment. How much inspiration is lost because we fear what it 'might' turn out like or look like?

My anxiousness for photo shoots is slowly dissipating because even those shoots that I don't think went well, evidence themselves otherwise. I did a shoot last weekend with puppies. THAT was an exercise in a whole lot of things! (I will take pet pictures, but probably won't become a professional pet photographer...) :O) But when viewing the photos afterwards, I realize that even while my inspiration was being stretched completely outside of its comfort zone, and I was concerned about the outcome, I have success. It's all about perspective. We only fail when we believe we have.

So...I will view this life through the lens of inspiration. And not be fearful of what I have captured. Because it will ALWAYS be a beautiful thing. :)

The Unpopularity of Love

I have struggled quite a lot with expressing my faith outwardly on a public forum. At first it was about acceptance and potential judgment and you know...being an on fire Christian is not always a popular thing. But that fear has been set aside. It is who I am. I live, eat, breath...Jesus. And I'm grateful for the freedom to express that.

I watched a short snipit of 'Trading Spouses' last night before I put thy lovely to bed. A Christian mama was traded with an 'alternative lifestyle' mama and I was frustrated and amazed at the same time with this episode. First...the Christian mama...is the reason why Christianity is so unpopular. Judgment reigned. She tried to press her beliefs onto the family she was visiting and the young boy (he must have been around 9?) was visibly disturbed by her. The amazing thing is that the alternative Dad, the one you might EXPECT to be judgmental and harsh, was completely accepting of her and cried when he couldn't understand what was distressing his son so much. He wanted him to accept her and give her a chance. WOW. The Lord works in mysterious ways, but just because we have Jesus doesn't mean we have some superior authority over the lives of others. And just because someone looks differently on the outside doesn't mean they are awful human beings. We are all God's children. Individual and different and valuable all the same. It hurts my heart to see/watch people hurting each other. LOVE one another.

I accidentally bumped into a website yesterday that shocked me. A man who has been a Christian for 23 years decided to unravel his faith and the faith of his family, and become athiest. I can't wrap my brain around that decision. Because walking with Jesus brings more hope and joy than I have ever known in my entire life. What devastating thing happened that would deter him so extremely? He made a list...and it had everything to do with how the 'church' has dictated his faith. My heart breaks into a million pieces. The church was designed to love and encourage one another...not try to stuff them into a box that they feel should be the way that God would have them behave. God is not this way. God is good and loving and pours out His goodness to us. God made us each individually and He speaks to each of us individually. None of us fit into a box. PEOPLE are fallible and struggling and broken. And broken people hurt each other. But if we can accept all broken people for who they are and love them anyway...because God loves them; because he loves US...how many more people could see the face of God? If we just let people be different and value them for the gifts that God has given them, and encourage them towards those gifts. And allow people to be fallible, because not one of us is perfect. We all have struggles and insecurities and we've all been hurt to our core. The peace I find in my heart now doesn't mean I've somehow elevated my 'status' among my peers. What my peace has done is want to share it...and LOVE people because that is how I received my peace...by being loved. And really...loving people is so easy when we look at them through a window not tainted by our own broken image. And through this image, freedom reigns.

Flowers in the Desert.

Life is easy when, well...life is easy. When everything lines up nicely and everything seems to go right, and the sun shines, and you get a goody from a friend out of nowhere, and you get a discount at the store, and gas prices go down, and the baby is being sweet on the mama, and there's love in the air, and when someone gives you compliments and...and...and... But life isn't like this all the time. The only constant and consistent thing is ups and downs and change. By running all the ups and downs together it probably would look pretty even. Something about the law of averages or something. Average it all out and life is pretty good. I can't complain, really.

I'm not sure why there's so much more focus and discontent with the downs. I accept them for what they are - temporary. I suppose the process of moving through those times is the thing that builds character. How they are managed. How I choose to either react or respond. Funny we don't have to justify how we react or respond to the GREAT things in life. Perhaps the heaviness of the downs is what brings on so much focus. After a while things get too heavy and I just want to drop them. I don't feel I have the strength anymore to carry it; whatever 'it' may be. I think when I'm carrying heavy stuff, it seems I'm the only one working. Kinda like single motherhood...when I'm carrying/juggling baby (unhappy baby), purse, diaper bag, grocery bag, keys to unlock the door, and I don't have enough shoulders/straps and arms and I start dropping things. Hopefully I don't drop the baby. These moments I find myself feeling the most alone. Lord have mercy, sprout me a couple more arms and a bucket load more of patience! But...we're not the only ones working during these times, even though it may seem like it.

I've been a bit blue and listless and kinda like the life's been sucked out of me as of late. Feeling pretty alone. The irony about these times for me is that when I reach out, nobody is around or available. If someone is available, I don't feel connected somehow. It's kinda like I NEED to be in this alone spot. I've been placed her so that I become very secure in who to draw my strength from. And that's not from myself or from my friends or family. The Lord is my strength.

I've been practicing being still. Trying not to place a lot of focus on the 'stuff' that manifest themselves and create an even heavier load/mood. Just working on one moment, on day at a time. This too shall pass. The last three days I have been very pleasantly surprised by things... Since I'm feeling very alone and trying not to focus on myself, but focusing on myself nonetheless, I pray and reach for God in my limited capacity, but He seems so far away. I always feel like I'm the only one working. I'm alone. I'm reaching; waiting; praying for some evidence of sunshine through the current cloud.

Two days ago a friend of mine sent me a text message out of the blue that says the Father is very fond of me. Hm. Yesterday another friend sent me a message that said that Jesus loves me. Hmm. Another friend texts me that she's thinking of me. Today, another friend of mine sends me a text that says she senses my heaviness and has been praying for me. Hm... It occurred to me that even though I am not certain the source of my blues, that the Father sees me. He feels me. He is with me. I am not alone. I'm not the only one working. I felt very distinctly the hand of God reaching down to me to comfort me. I'm not the only one reaching. He is with me, confirming His presence through my friends. This is the joy of the Lord. While external circumstances or internal mood may be less than ideal, there is still an underlying joy that He will ALWAYS come through in just the way we need. He knows just how and where to insert a sunbeam through the cloud. It doesn't FIX what is happening...but it sure makes the journey a little bit more pleasant. Even in the desert there are flowers along the way.

Been Thinkin' About...

Moods. Somewhere along life's journey I learned that moods were bad. Moods are wrong. I do realize today that moods are normal. If you don't have moods you might need to check your pulse. But it never fails that when my mood declines a bit, that I start to beat myself up. And then I think too much about how I shouldn't be moody and I put on a happy face and then I think about how fake I am and how I look to others and yada yada yada. How annoying!

I've never been a person who lashes out in my moods. I always lash IN. But in my lashing IN, I carry the burden of so much responsibility in the way that others feel. I question every word I say; every move I make. Insecurity reigns. It's awful.

I know that this particular mood is hormonally induced. Stinks being a woman sometimes. But it seems half my life has been and is battling this particular mood swing. I don't feel worthy. I don't feel hopeless, but my self-image declines and I wonder who in the world would/could ever love me, let alone accept me even in the slightest with all my imbalances (there's really not that many, but my little mole hill becomes a mountain under the microscope of this mood). Why would anyone choose to be with someone who is so off balance? Have I mentioned how awful it is?

I know today and can acknowledge this 'temporary' state of being. It doesn't define who I am. People probably don't see it much unless I point at it. I may become a little bit distant, but those closest to me know that I just need a time out. And its really that simple. They don't all suddenly decide that since I'm having a mood that they can't be my friend anymore. It's really a terrible perspective to have. It's a burden that has gotten better over the years, but still plagues me.

I think the worst part about this particular mood is that I focus so much on MYSELF. It is my life endeavor these days to think less about myself and more about how I can help another. Perhaps there is a testimony in here somewhere about how even though I have moods that edge up to depression at times, that I am still free. Jesus saves me from the agonies of the world...and myself. This mood is biological. I'm not going to be judged because I have a body that happens to be woman that happens to produce brain altering chemicals that swing me off balance a bit.

I was listening to the radio this morning and was so inspired by a story I heard. Janine was a prostitute, drug addict, and drug dealer for 18 years, but by the Grace of God was saved 7 years ago. Have you ever spoken to someone who is in the middle of a life this devastating? They are angry. They are dishonest. They are not at peace in their souls and they let everyone know about it. Her voice over the radio was the voice of an angel. I would bet that she still has demons that might creep up on her from time to time, but the miracle that has happened to her that changed her life was Jesus and all the hurt and turmoil was gone. And now she seeks to reach out to others who are where she was. Amazing and heart warming story.

All of that to say that if I stay inside my little bubble of self, then the world looks pretty dismal. My moods are not the big picture. My mood is just a speed bump that I have to consider navigating over slowly. The world is not about ME and what happens to ME, but what I can gather from ME to help another. I am but a vessel to bless another. I found this video this morning that really speaks to this. It really puts things into perspective about my current state of being. I may be miserable at the moment and having a little pity party, but oh how I take my life for granted. So today I'll be focusing on ignoring ME and my mood and seeking out blessings for others. What can I do for you today?

Youniverse

I found this fun website...click on pictures and it will tell you about who you are. It's a pretty accurate reflection of who I am. Give it a whirl!

What it says about me:

Moods: Easy Rider
You can be both calm and peaceful, and you like to feel free to explore your environment. You can be a little nostalgic and you love revisiting familiar places and memories. When it comes to art, you're definitely unconventional. You like to think differently, always from another perspective. You have a good sense of humor. You like how music helps you unwind, and switch off. Music transports you far away from the everyday grind.

Fun: Thriller
You love to be far away from your everyday life. There's nothing like catching some rays and slowing down - you know how to take things nice and easy! For kicks, there is nothing like a little affection to give you a buzz. There's always so much flirting to be done! When it comes to holidays, you reckon they should always be indulgent (they even used my word 'reckon'!)- a very special treat and a chance to recharge your batteries in luxurious surroundings, as well as spending quality time with family and friends.

Habits: New Wave Puritan
Simple pleasures make your day. You love relaxing, unwinding and living a pampered life (I'd love to live a pampered life...it doesn't mean that I do, currenlty :O)). You care about your health and make sure you're putting the right stuff in it (Okay, I do try really hard to...). As for the home, you're a bit of a traditionalist. It's not just about function - style is definitely a priority.

Social: Thoughtful
For you friendship is all about being there for one another. It's so precious to know that there are a few special people in the world that you can always rely on. When you think of freedom - the great outdoors spring to mind. Getting back to nature is a big draw. It's the perfect place to find peace and quiet.

This was kinda fun. There are more tests on the website...I think I'll go take s'more! :O)

Run on over to my photo blog...Lotsa new pics!

My comments have been enabled so do let me know what you think!

:O)

Long weekends

This weekend was a really good long weekend. Really, probably the best long weekend I've had in a very long time. All weekends should be like this.

Friday was a short day at work, so I ran around running errands and feeling productive. Saturday I went white water rafting in the frigid cold. Sunday had church and spent some time purging my garage and putting everything in its rightful place. Monday I did more of the same with some good chinese food and a fun photo shoot. I got to sleep in on two of the days. So...lotsa resting, playing, working.

And this morning it took me a half hour longer to get to work than usual. Skool is back in session. Everybody and their brother and sister are on the roads now. Which means I'll have to get up earlier now. Which means I REALLY need to be disciplined about going to bed earlier. Just not enough time in a day sometimes.

So...nothing else to report. No Inspiration Speaking to me this morning. :)

Word of God, Speak

I pray/journal unceasingly. It took me a while to realize what that means, but with every beautiful thing, I praise my Heavenly Father for giving me eye and senses candy to revel in. And when things are confusing and perplexing I ask the questions to find answers. The questions are posed more in my journals than in my head because if I put it down in writing, I can at least look at it, reflect on it, and later on see how my prayers/questions have been answered. It's a system that is really starting to flourish and work wonders for me. I have journals at work, in my purse, on my beside table, and in multiple other locations because if something strikes me, I need to be able to let it out.

My workday mornings I have a ritual of taking my journal into the 'prayer chambers' (hehe) in order to pray/write/reflect in private and without distraction. I'm not a morning person, so getting up earlier to accomplish this just doesn't work. Once I'm awake, I love mornings, but it's the getting up part that is so difficult. Don't think that is going to change much. So...I'm usually awake by the time I get to work, so it's the first thing on my agenda.

I mentioned in a former post that there's this 'pattern' I have with men...being perpetually attracted to those that are not available and not being able to receive love from those that are. Without digging into the psychology of why this is, I prayed this morning, the following...

Lord, I wonder...why we are allowed to go to the vulnerable places in our hearts with someone, if you're not going to allow it to work? It confuses me. I realize we learn along the way, and we aren't really promised anything earthly. But I'm perplexed.

I mentioned somewhere along the way that I didn't need an answer today because while I am and have been perplexed for some time, I have a grounded peace in my soul that my faith will carry me through. I'm just tossing it out there for consideration.

This doesn't happen all the time. Rarely. Maybe even never happened before now...but I got an answer 5 minutes later. I was reading a devotional (My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers) that first has this scripture:

John 11:40 Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

And then this...the answer...

Faith must be tested because it can only become your intimate possession through conflict.

WOW.

If I haven't mentioned how amazing God is, lately...He is truly amazing. He may speak to others differently, but He pretty much answers my questions directly via scripture and other readings. I may have an underlying sense but if there's any confusion, then it is confirmed with scripture. I LOVE THAT! He speaks TO ME. :O) I don't know that I'll ever get over the awe of that. Because every time he speaks or answers something, I am immediately placed on this fabulous floating cloud of wonder and amazement. And am filled with joy and love and peace...that He really is with me. I'd like to have constand affirmation from Him, but then I might start taking it for granted.

You know what else is pretty nifty (besides it being Friday, a short Friday, and a short Friday before a long weekend)? Just this morning as I was driving into work, I asked God to reveal Himself to me. I was feeling a little parched of His presence. And He is faithful to those who ask. :)

He asks us to be as little children before Him...and I don't know how to be any other way! I get so excited! And I want to share and dance around and just be a giddy little girl! Because He spoke to ME! And He loves ME!

WooHoo!

Daddies

I read a post here about a Daddy moving his daughters to college. Moving day/weekend (however long it took) was less than fluid, but I could feel even during the process and agonies of the move that his heart was wrapped so tightly around his daughters; that he would do anything for them. How proud they must be to have him. How proud he is of them.

I can only know what any of this feels like by imagining it and vicariously experiencing it through others. My Dad is present in my life, but he has never been PRESENT. I have no idea how he feels. He doesn't communicate it. He doesn't participate in my life. He's 'the dad', but he's not THE DAD. I see him when I go visit him and he comes to see me when I get married or have babies. So I've been married twice, one of which he attended and I've had one baby. So that sums up on one hand, two fingers, the number of times he's made an effort to see me. I don't think I don't matter to him. I think that I do. I just don't think he knows how to express it. He was never taught, and so he just lives what he knows. Which isn't really a lot about fathering, since the father that he knew growing up treated him very poorly and kept him at a distance.

It makes me very sad when the circles of life cause so much pain and love is buried. It happens so much in this world. I feel the pain everywhere. And my heart breaks daily to know that people just need LOVE! I thank the Lord every day since I have found Him, for showing me what Love is. I know that in the story of my life, my earthly Father might not have a blog or journal or anything that reflects what his children mean to him, but I know that my Heavenly Father does. He is with me always; crying with me, celebrating with me, dancing with me... And I feel the fullness of His adoration. And on the day that He brings me home, I will sit on his lap and we will share the storybook of life that we had together.

I used to want so badly to be acknowledged by my Dad and I became bitter and angry and frustrated because I just wanted him to make an effort. I wanted him to WANT to see me, to spend time with me just because; without needing a reason. But my expectations are based on my needs/wants/desires...and just because I need/want/desire them doesn't mean that someone has the ability to deliver. They, too are lacking in something. Somewhere along the way their needs/wants/desires were not met and a hole was formed in their heart. And so what I have learned by receiving the love of my Heavenly Father, in order to teach my Dad about love, because his Dad didn't teach him, is to love him...like Jesus loves me. The hole in his heart that has lost its ability to pour out love can be filled. The natural 'order' of things would indicate that its the parents 'responsibility' to teach their children love...but perhaps my parents had children so that their children can teach THEM about love. I don't always feel like making the effort because its human nature to not want to give when we haven't necessarily received to our expectations...but even when I don't feel like it, I'm blessed for having made the effort. And I hope that my Dad feels blessed for the token that I send to let him know how important and special he is in my life. Because he really is. And that's not based on what I receive from him. I'm just grateful to have a Dad.

It's All About Me

Another MeMe :) Because I'm wired and awake and can't get to sleep and I can't bang on the walls to hang things up because the mini-me is sleeping.

So here it goes...

Every day, I would like to:
1. Wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed
2. Bless someone / compliment someone
3. Have one full hour of completely uninterrupted me time.
4. Look everyone in the eye and smile at them.

Every week, I would like to:
1. Have an entire DAY of uninterrupted me time? :)
2. Be one photoshoot closer to ditching the day job.
3. Exercise at least 5 days
4. Home cook meals at least 5 days

In three months, I would like to:
1. Have completed a couple photography classes to fine tune myself/my skills.
2. Have happy holidays with my family in MT.
3. Be completely prepared and ready for my missions trip to Cambodia in January.
4. Go skiing.

Before next year, I would like to:
1. Be completely moved into my condo with no boxes in the garage beckoning my attention.
2. Start having some company over...I love hosting!
3. Become more focused and driven towards self-employment and staying home with my daughter.
4. Lose a few more lbs.

In two to five years, I would like to:
1. Be self-employed
2. Be...married? 2 years may be too soon. Maybe by 5 years.
3. Not feel like I'm that close to 40? (Gasp!)
4. Have a regular travelling schedule

Before I die, I would like to:
1. LIVE! :O) Live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.
2. Travel and see as much of the world as possible.
3. Leave a legacy for my daughter
4. Spend a lot more time near the beach and in nature in general.

Self-Focus

I was chatting with a friend of mine last night about life...solving the world's problems, as they say. (who are 'they'?) Great conversation, as always, but we reached a place in the conversation that was painful. Reflecting on decisions I've made/not made, choices and patterns, etc. It seems I've had this pattern with men in my life of finding myself attracted to those who are perpetually unavailable and not being able to 'receive' those who are more than available and willing to offer me the world. Why is this, I wonder? Does being attracted to those not available perpetuate and validate underlying worth 'issues'? As long as I'm pining over someone who won't/can't return the sentiment, it is safe to have these feelings...and there's no responsibility attached. And actually allowing someone to love me would require opening myself up to a deeper vulnerability and responsibility to make it work; to not fail.

The deeper question, though, is why the first instinct is always to point at what is wrong. If it didn't work for whatever reason...why am I wrong in the choices/decisions I've made? What if... all the psychology of the world's view is consumed and overwhelmed with focus on thyself...and what is wrong...and what needs to be fixed. What if...Jesus already fixed it. He's wiped the slate clean. I am a new creations. Everything that is and was and will be is part of who I am... But all He's asking us to do is focus on Him; today; right now. He will handle the details of our lives, one detail at a time. Is it our human nature to be so self-focused? Or is it a ploy from the enemy...because as long as we are self-focused, then we are not focused on His truth; His divine presence and guidance in the very moment that we are existing.

I find so much freedom when I redirect focus off of myself. Yet, I always find myself going back there. Perhaps its just a part of our human nature to do so and in time, the habit will be formed to stay focused on God. For now, after I've gone there...plunged to the depths of 'what was' and got intimate with the pain again... I've found my way out of the mess and rested my head on the chest of the One who saved me from that pain. He has His arms wrapped around me in a loving embrace, stroking my hair, comforting me, and letting me know that I don't have to go there anymore. What I need to focus on now is who He is; who I am in His sight; and with eyes forward to all the goodness that He will have for me, free from the bondage of what was.

I know nothing in my own understanding. There are reasons for everything happening in this life...even our decisions based on former pains. But sometimes things will never be understood at our carnal human level. We won't see the truth in its fullness until the day we cross over and find ourselves hob-nobbing with our savior in the heavenlies.

Single Motherhood and Mini-Tornados

My daughter is 19 months old...and very willful...already. I don't think it is a phase, but a part of her personality, which frankly...scares me out of my wits. I'm a pretty passive, mellow (albeit chatty and exuberant at times) kinda gal and have always been intimidated by the more assertive personalities. I'm less intimidated now, but don't have a CLUE how to mentor and guide my daughter as she blossoms into who she is. What I know now is that I need to be consistent and assertive and do not allow her to wear the pants. I'm the mama and I'm the boss. What I wonder is which battles to fight and which ones to let go. She defies almost everything I tell her now. If I discipline her EVERY SINGLE TIME I ask/tell her not to do something...it feels aweful. Some days are really bad days...because it's a fight all day long. And some days she'll be as sweet as can be and I pray that she gives me more of these days. They are easy. Raising children is not easy. Raising children alone is really really not easy.

I have a guy friend who lives next door to me and she was going through a phase of hitting me/slapping at me. This behavior is absolutely not acceptable and I've tried everything I could before having to pop her on her bum to get her attention. My guy friend witnessed it one day and in his big deep manly voice told her 'No Hitting'. Just like that. She ducked with her tail between her legs and got all weepy. Is that all it takes? A man's voice? He's hired. She's only done it one time since then, I think.

There's a reason I was handed single motherhood. Of course I will never know what 'lessons' I was signed up to learn...there are a bazillion that I've learned already...but MAN...this is hard work! Lord have mercy! I keep hearing more and more that I need to make sure to establish my authority now because if she reaches 4 or 5 and I don't have a handle on her, then she will run my life. I'm not afraid to discipline her. I'm not one of those that is afraid of spanking (I was never traumatized by a spanking while growing up - The Lord put the cushion there for a reason, I think.), but its just aweful having to be the ONLY one doing any disciplining. Single parenthood is just not fair.

And have I mentioned how incredibly busy my little cherubim is? She goes and goes and goes and goes. She is a mini tornado. If I had half her energy, oh the things I could accomplish! I've left her with a neighbor for a couple of hours a couple of times and when I pick her up, just after two hours, my neighbor's hair is all dishevled and she's exhausted...and she asks me how in the WORLD do I do it? The baby never stops! The only time she is still is when she is sleeping. And praise the Lord its the only fight I don't have to have, is putting her to bed. When she's tired, she goes right down. But she doesn't wind down at all. She will spin out until she hits the wall (when I lay her down) and then she passes out. But she won't mellow out at all.

So, with little mini tornado, you can imagine what my house looks like. I don't know why I bother cleaning. I suppose its a good thing I don't have OCD. I might really lose my mind. The neighbor kids came over the other day and cleaned her room for me. How sweet of them. :) I didn't even ask. It was in the former state 5 minutes after they left, though. Probably should have taken a picture of it.

Freedom of Expression

I joke with one of my co-workers that in the four months that I've worked here, that she could write a book about my life. :) There's never a dull moment. I don't really know why some of our lives are or seem so much fuller and others seem so much more...level? Perhaps its perception. Perhaps its the energy that is inside of me that bubbles out and I can't control myself so I get all chattery and then feel silly because I've just bubbled over. And those that are a bit more reserved with their chattiness and life, who tend to hold things in a bit more...I don't really think they think I'm crazy...okay maybe I do. :) But now I can laugh at myself about it. This is me. Chatty Cathy. Energetic and exuberant and I can't contain myself so I'm going to DANCE through this life! And laugh and fall and get back up and cry some and just experience all of the fullness that is available to me.

I went out dancing Friday night. I love to dance. It is an expression that is so freeing and comfortable to me and I have so much fun. I like to techno dance and country dance the most (and slow dance, of course, when there's a significant hunky man in the picture). I don't techno dance by myself, though (unless I'm at home...then I get really crazy!)...I will always find someone to go with me for that, but I can go out to a country dance hall by myself and enjoy myself thoroughly. I had some heavy things on my mind and just wanted to go and be free for a little while. I haven't gone in a very long time. I actually didn't expect to dance much, but thought I'd give it a whirl anyway. I ended up dancing so much I was all sweaty and gross. But good gross. :) And the heaviness on my mind was lifted. Freedom of expression... Good stuff.

I realized while I was there that there was a time in my life when I couldn't go to a dancing establishment without drinking. I had to get rid of my self-consciousness and insecurities and inhibitions before I could really enjoy myself. It's so great that I could go out and not drink...and actually have a better time than I think I've ever had...completely sober. This is victory; poetry in motion.
